Ellen Agnes Walsh

F, b. before 19 June 1881, d. 26 November 1941

Thomas and Ellen (Walsh) McIntyre
September 4, 1910
  • Birth*: Ellen Agnes Walsh was born before 19 June 1881 at Knockahoney, County Sligo, Ireland.1
  • Anecdote*: Irish births were often reported later than actual since a family would be fined if the birth wasn't reported within three months. This seems to be the case with Ellen Walsh as she is baptized almost four months before her civil birth certificate says she was born.2
  • Baptism: She was baptized at Tourlestrane, Tourlestrane Parish, County Sligo, Ireland, on 19 June 1881. Religion: Roman Catholic. Baptismal Sponsors were Thomas Cawley and Bridget Cawley. The Church is also called St. Attracta..3,4,1
  • Birth: Ellen was born at Knockahoney, Kilmacteige Parish, County Sligo, Ireland, on 12 October 1881.5,6
  • Religion*: She was Roman Catholic.7
  • Census*: She appeared on the census of 1901 at Killure, Kilmacteige, County Sligo, Ireland. Ellen is living with her sister Bridget O'Hara and husband, Austin. I believe Bridget might be close to having her first child and Ellen is staying with her to assist.8
  • Occupation*: She was a farmer's daughter in 1901.8
  • Emigration*: She emigrated, in 1905. Point of origin: Ireland.9
  • Emigration: On the 1930 US Census, it states that she immigrated in 1906 which is not consistent with other documents, most of which point to her emmigrating in 1905.10
  • Employment*: She was employed on 16 April 1910 as a servant for the Roach family.11
  • Census1910*: She was enumerated in the census 1910 on 16 April 1910 at 215 Forty Fifth Street, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA. This is the only Ellen Walsh that could be found in Chicago in 1910 that is close to Ellen's age. Immigration year is suspect. It says either 1908 or 1905.11
  • Naturalization: She was listed as Thomas Joseph McIntyre's spouse at the time of his naturalization on 26 May 1910 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA.12
  • Marriage License: Ellen Agnes Walsh and Thomas Joseph McIntyre obtained a marriage license on 2 September 1910 at Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA.13
  • Married Name: As of 4 September 1910,her married name was McIntyre.14

  • Naturalization*: Ellen Agnes Walsh was naturalized on 7 October 1910 at Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA. Her naturalization occurred by virtue of her marriage the previous month to Thomas J. McIntyre. Of note, on Thomas' Petition for Naturalization form, her name is given as Helen Nacacahoone, stating that she resides in Chicago, Illinois and married September 4, 1910. The name "Nacacahoone" is a corruption of her birth townland, i.e., Knockahoney.12
